SPRING, MY LOVE

Exhibited from March 30 to May 2, 2021

Spring, my love is an exhibition created and customized for the windows of ILLUM department store. In a country where winter never seems to end, Leïla Guinnefollau decided to create all the pieces in honor of the long-awaited spring.

The work is composed of hanging sculptures called mobiles and is inspired by a selection of sleeping plants such as tulip or hyacinth. These plants are known for their hibernation capability which allows them to get through the winter and be the first flowers to bloom at the arrival of spring.

The artist has conceptualized the space of the windows as she would have envisioned the layout of a garden. As an impressionist landscape, the floral universe is perceived by the artist in fleeting and moving sensations and hereby expressed in notes of colors.

Since each piece hangs from a thread, they are in permanent movement, swirling and offering new angles to the eyes continuously.

Shortly after arriving in Denmark, a Danish friend offered Leïla a French translation of the little-known book, 'The Rose Elf' by H. C. Andersen. In the book, flowers are the main characters.

This Danish tale sparked such interest and enchantment that it reinforced the artist's conceptual decisions for the upcoming exhibition. Perhaps now 'The Rose Elf' will receive the recognition it deserves.

As Leïla Guinnefollau grew up in Paris she went every year, like many other children, to discover the Christmas

windows of Galeries Lafayette. With her current exhibition at ILLUM, she replaces Christmas, winter, and cotton snow with the flowers of spring.
